Sacred Waters: Centre des Arts, Geneva
“Rivers carry the fresh water that gives birth to entire civilisations and harbours imagination in every worldly mythology throughout the senses of the body. In this poetic intersection, we experiment communicating spatial boundaries of the non-human world as living memory—(civilisation and climate change) all through the perspective of a molecule of water.”
— Charlotte Qin
Charlotte Qin (秦超颖) is a Chinese-Canadian artist based in Geneva. Her artistic journey flows like water — shaped by personal mythology and childhood curiosity. Blending her Chinese heritage with a Western scientific background, her work bridges art, science, and mysticism through painting, performance, and environmental observation.
In Sacred Water, Qin treats water not merely as subject, but as medium, memory, and messenger. Her practice invites us to see water as the connective tissue of life — a sacred force that holds the emotions, rhythms, and stories of the Earth. Through ink-based paintings and meditative performances in natural water bodies, she explores our intimate interdependence with nature.
The works presented offer a sensorial experience of water’s movement — imagined not only on the surface, but in its hidden flows beneath glaciers, rocks, and soil. Qin’s art becomes an invitation to listen more closely to water’s quiet language, and to remember the sacredness of what sustains us.
